Sport

The south of the Meuse has a beautiful rolling countryside which makes it the perfect place for lovers of sport.

Cycle

The Meuse is accessible for any cyclist. Ask us for the cycling maps to make beautiful cycle tours in our hilly landscape.

Since 2019 we can suggest the Meuse bicycle tour or Meuse à vélo which passes near our village. This route covers a distance of more than 1000 km and follows the Meuse River, starting from the source of the Meuse on the Langres plateau in Haute Marne and going down to its delta at the North Sea.

Walking

Maxey is situated at the foot of a woody hill. The perfect place for hiking lovers with routes to suit both experienced ramblers as well as beginners! There are plenty of walking possibilities in the surroundings. The GRP Jeanne d'Arc is accessible for everyone: hikers, horse riders and mountain bikers. It's a figure-eight shaped track from Vaucouleurs to Domrémy and it crosses in Maxey sur Vaise. Total distance of the track is 59 km. Don't hesitate to ask for the maps of the tracks nearby.

Fishing

The Meuse River is near Maxey sur Vaise, which makes it the perfect place for a calm holiday on the banks of the river. It's a nice place for keen fishermen and women. With the fishing permit, the Meuse is yours! The favourite is the pike! Followed by the beaked carp, pike perch and the trout.

Hunting

During autumn and winter you can hunt in our large forests, with respect for the environment of course. For more information you can contact the local hunting association.

Paragliding

Pagny la Blanche Côte is 5 minutes by car from Maxey and is a popular spot for paragliding. The place has a difference in level of a hundred metres, oriented to the southeast. There are both thermal and dynamic winds.

Canoeing

And for those who like water, there is also the Meuse River... 10 minutes away by bike there is the Meuse where you can swim. But it's also the departure and arrival place for canoe excursions during summertime. There are descents without guide every weekend in July and August. The places are limited so they have to be reserved at the Tourism board of Vaucouleurs.
